While I am newly forming my educational philosophy I do possess ideas around the future of education based on what I have learned and experienced so far. Perhaps what shapes my thoughts, more than anything, is that our students today require so much more from their education to compete and as a result our educational system must build in an enormous amount of adaptability to allow for constant change. What that means as a an educator, now more than ever, is a tremendous capacity for change. Lesson plans must be dynamic, timely, and highly relevant so that our students are constantly being challenged in areas that resonate with their skill set. I strongly believe that students should have access to a variety of teaching tools and that our schools should assess where a student's strengths are and allow for their educational path to reflect that. School librarians are well-positioned to be a critical part of this assessment by nature of the resources and environment that the student enters into in the library. It can become very clear to a school librarian in a library setting what educational path will benefit a student based on subject topics that he or she gravitates towards or mediums that they prefer. In a world of 2.0 tools, customizing education and developing strengths will motivate all students and school librarians have a birds-eye view of the information and tools at hand to make that connection in our schools.
